OLED displays for iPhone 12 are manufactured by LG and Samsung

We already have one of the most important mobile events of this year, the Apple Keynote, and four of them saw the light of iPhone 12. These are marked by 5G connectivity and, for the first time, all are equipped with screens based on OLED technology. This is not the first time that this type of screen has been transferred to the iPhone (this primacy has iPhone X), but for the first time all the newly introduced models are equipped with an OLED panel.
For now, it is indeed Samsung Display that is making the displays for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. In addition, the Koreans also make the screens of the iPhone 12 Mini. So who makes the screens for the iPhone 12? LG display makes the standard iPhone screens, according to a recent report.
BOE was having the opportunity to be the default manufacturer for the iPhone 12, but evidently it did not meet some characteristics, so it seems that, at some point, Apple decided on Samsung Display and LG Display.
Apple will be making a total of 70 million iPhone 12s by the end of this year. On the other hand, Samsung and LG are capable of providing a total of 80 million screens; although 60 million would be exclusively from Samsung Display.
Samsung was also the top display maker for Apple last year. The Korean company manufactured 50 million panels for the iPhone 11. Therefore, if this year goes for more, that would mean that Samsung would be growing in this field by 20%.
By next year, experts say Apple is expected to make a total of 220 million iPhones. If so, that would mean that Samsung Display would be making nearly 170 million panels for the iPhone 12 in 2021.
Three different sizes
Apple has introduced four new 12 iPhones, which have three different screen sizes. The smallest is the Mini version, measuring 5.4 inches, followed by a pair of iPhone 12 and 12 Pro with 6.1-inch screens and the largest is the Pro Max variant that offers a 6.7-inch diagonal. Because Apple has incorporated this type of display into all of its innovations, OLED manufacturers can rub their hands together because high sales are guaranteed.
All the displays are Korean
Not surprisingly, Apple has reached out to display specialists and companies who have vast experience with OLED displays (and not just). We refer, of course, to the Korean giants Samsung and LG. The two companies divide their work equally between the two models, and while Samsung supplies displays for the Mini and Pro Max versions, LG is in charge of deliveries for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro.
Big sales are expected
Phones are always proud of their extremely high sales figures, and the new iPhone 12 family will certainly be the same. Apple plans to produce 70 million units on the new line by the end of this year, with Samsung and LG putting a 10% reserve on this number and should deliver a total of 80 million screens.
LG will do better
Samsung will supply a majority of Apple, namely 60 million units, and LG will supply the remaining 20 million. Last year, it only supplied about 5 million OLED panels to Apple, so it will improve quite significantly and Samsung will be better (shipped 50 million last year).
In addition to this pair, the Chinese company BOE Technology also tried to supply screens to Apple, but failed in the first attempt. But there is talk that it should supply screens to the Cupertino giant next year.
